From November 9th to 13th in 2012, the 5th Mainland-Taiwan Youth's I Ching Learning Theses Statement Seminar was held successfully in Taipei. The seminar was co-sponsored by Taiwan I-Ching Learning Society and National Taiwan Normal University Department of Chinese. Hundreds of scholars of different ages from mainland and Taiwan have attended the seminar. Shandong University along with Center for Zhouyi & Ancient Chinese Philosophy co-organized the event. Eight scholars led by Professor Liu Dajun attended the conference and made a great success.
Mainland-Taiwan Youth's I Ching Learning Theses Statement Seminar was initiated by Mr. Honorary President Shao Chongling and Ms President Ni Shujuan. It aims to encourage young scholars in pursuit of I-Ching and to promote I-Ching development in mainland and Taiwan. The opening ceremony was hosted by Ms Ni Shujuan. Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation Chairman Lin Zhongsen made a speech at the ceremony in which he spoke highly of the academic communication and hoped it could continue in the future. Lin gave a precious souvenir to Professor Liu Dajun who has been dedicated in promoting I-Ching development and took photos with him.
After the ceremony, a memorial service was held in memory of the renowned Yi scholars Xiao Hanming. Xiao(1940-2011) was the professor of Wuhan University, who contributed hugely to the development of I-Ching studies in mainland and Taiwan.
37 thesis were published in the seminar concerned with the histories of Yi studies, the philosophy of I-Ching,etc. The seminar exceeded the previous ones in terms of scale and quality.
Professor Lin Zhongjun, Deputy Director of SDU Center for Zhouyi & Ancient Chinese Philosophy, Dr. Jiang Ying, Dr. Zhang Kebin, PhD student Li Shengqiang and Xu Wei, together with Professor Liu Yuping from SDU Department of History and Culture have attended the conference with the group.
The group led by Professor Liu Dajun received warm welcome and hospitality from I-Ching scholars in Taiwan. In their spare time, they visited the world-renowned Buddist Master Hsing Yun. As Professor Liu and Hsing Yun are old friends, they exchanged calligraphy works and held conversations. Professor Liu invited Hsing Yun to give a lecture in SDU, and Hsing Yun said he would come in April,2013.
The academic cultural exchange tour led by Professor Liu has strengthened the I-Ching communication, enlarged the academic influence of SDU, and contributed to the cultural exchange cross strait.
